High school portfolio piece - figure by Janice Liu
High school portfolio piece - hands by Janice Liu
Above are two pieces I created when I was in high school and included in some of my own art school applications in 2010 and 2011. I received offers for Maryland Institute College of Art, Parsons School of Design, Savannah College of Art & Design, School of Visual Arts, and Sheridan College (Animation).

This is a weekly session for high school students in Grades 10-12 who are intending to apply for art programs for university or college. The classes focus on strengthening drawing and painting skills, studies, and working from observation. This is a small, cozy class, so there's a lot of flexibility and allowance for students to be self-directed and explore individual interests if they choose. I'll provide a selection of art materials, as well as still lifes and models.

Instruction in this class is focused on training your eyes and hands to capture what you see accurately, and then applying that knowledge to create pieces that explore your own artistic vision. The intention is to provide a consistent, focused time and environment for artmaking, and to help create a body of work from which you can later choose portfolio pieces for art school applications.

Students commit to 5 classes at a time. Registration is required.
